De kerk van de H. Carolus Borromeus dateert van 1865. Het is een van de mooiste voorbeelden van neogotisch eclecticisme in de regio. De bouw van de kerk vormde de aanhef tot het ontstaan van een nieuwe parochie op het grondgebied van Ruiselede, compleet met pastorij, scholen en winkels. Grote bezieler van het project was pastoor Carolus Doom. Daarom noemden de mensen de plek Doomkerke.
