Het scheelde niet veel maar het Kasteel van Laken was bijna gesloopt. Het werd gered van de sloophamer in 1804 door Napoleon Bonaparte die het kocht voor 5.000.000 francs en het in 1811 aan zijn echtgenote Joséphine de Beauharnais schonk.
