Op de heuveltop bevind je je 53 m boven de zeespiegel, even hoog als op die van Tiegemkerk. Samen met de heuvel van Tiegem-dorp zijn het twee vooruitspringende heuveltoppen van de hoofdkam met Tiegemberg, Anzegem-dorp en Gijzelbrechtegem. Niet voor niets hadden de Romeinen hier al een Castrum of legerkamp. Daarvan is trouwens de gemeentenaam afgeleid. Het uitzicht is overweldigend: de volledige Scheldevallei van Avelgem tot Oudenaarde. Enig minpunt zijn de dampende koeltorens van de elektriciteitscentrale van Ruien. De classicistische Sint-Pieterskerk van Kaster werd in 1819 voltooid.
