Meise is een plaats en gemeente in de Belgische provincie Vlaams-Brabant en het arrondissement Halle-Vilvoorde. De gemeente telt bijna 20.000 inwoners. De gemeente behoort tot de Brabantse Kouters en de Groene Gordel.Meise is de hoofdplaats van het gelijknamig gerechtelijk en kieskanton.In 1876 werden er in Meise een vuurstenen bijl en drie vuursteensplinters gevonden. Deze behoorden toe aan jagers-verzamelaars, gedateerd in de nieuwe steentijd , die in deze toen dichtbeboste streken leefden.
