De augustijnen vestigden zich in Herentals in 1613 op verzoek van het stadsbestuur. Tijdens de Slag bij Herentals in 1798 staken de Fransen de torens in brand, wat leidde tot de vrijwel totale vernietiging van het geheel door de vlammen. Het historische ziekenhuis werd gerenoveerd in 1990-1993 en herbergt nu de archieven van de stad.
