Voorbij knooppunt 17 fiets je vanaf gasthof Ter Vaerent (let op de molensteen aan de muur) op de rand van een natuurgebied. Hier tref je nog echte oude turfputten aan. Ook de Molenbeek slingert zich door dit natuurgebied. Verschillende authentieke molenwegjes lopen naar de Cottemmolen. Eentje start bij knooppunt 17, een andere start naast de brug over de molenbeek, aan het vroegere café Brughuis.
