Het adellijke leen Meylandt kent een lange geschiedenis en wordt voor het eerst vermeld in 1385 als Hof ter Boeckt. In 1715 komt het landgoed in handen van ridder Arnold de Theux die het geheel verbouwde tot een luxueus kasteel. Het complex kreeg nog verschillende opknapbeurten waaronder de verbouwing van 1907 door Albert de Theux waaraan het gebouw haar huidige uitzicht dankt. De gemeente kocht het complex in 1959 en op dit moment is de gemeentelijke academie voor beeldende kunsten er in ondergebracht.
