Het domein aan de Reigersbosdreef is onder verschillende namen gekend: Sterrenhof, Reigershof, Hof van Delft of Hof Legrelle. De familie Van Delft liet het kasteel bouwen en bezit het domein al van in de 16e eeuw. De familie Legrelle is de huidige bewoner. De naam Reigershof duidt op het belang van dit gebied voor deze vogel. Het bos bij het kasteel was in het begin van de 20e eeuw een belangrijke habitat voor een reigerkolonie, die zelfs tot één van de grootste kolonies van West-Europa behoorde. Het reigerbestand is de laatste decennia echter sterk afgenomen.
