Het treinstation van Gent-Dampport werd in 1973 gebouwd, maar er was hier in de buurt al veel langer een station. In 1935 werd het station Gent-Waas afgebroken en ook het nog lang als goederenstation gebruikte station Gent-Oost. Het nieuwe station van 1973 werd naar plannen van architecten Dirk Servaes en Johan Beyne.
