Enkele eeuwen geleden ontdekte de Zweedse natuurkundige Carl van Linné dat bloemen zich altijd op hetzelfde tijdstip openden of sloten. Die vaststelling leidde tot het ontstaan van het bloemenuurwerk. Het uurwerk dat u vandaag kunt bewonderen ligt nog maar sinds 1963 op haar huidige plek. De vorige versies van het uurwerk werden vernield tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog en verdreven door 'Koning Auto'.
De in bloemen uitgevoerde datum wordt tijdens de zomermaanden élke dag aangepast.
