Het Kasteel
In 1613 vestigde Herman de Trappé, voormalig burgemeester van Luik, een staalfabriek langs de Rulles. Hij gaf zijn naam aan het landgoed en het kasteel dat hij bouwde: de Trapperie.
Tijdens de 17de en 18de eeuw, onder impuls van de familie Marchant, breidde het landgoed zich uit. Daar kwam de smidse en oven van Bologna bij, die bovenstrooms van de Trapperie ligt.
De welvaart van de smederijen zal zorgen voor de ontwikkeling en economische groei van Habay-la-vieille.
De fabriek sloot in 1839. Ze werd met de grond gelijkgemaakt en het kasteel werd in 1871 gerenoveerd. Tegenwoordig is
het landgoed in het bezit van de familie van de Prins de Mérode.
