Gistel is een plaats en stad in de Belgische provincie West-Vlaanderen. Dit polderstadje telt ongeveer 12.000 inwoners die als bijnaam "Hovelingen" hebben.Belangrijk evenement is de jaarlijkse St.-Godelieveprocessie, rond de heilige Godelieve van Gistel. Het ter hare ere opgerichte slotklooster, Abdij Ten Putte, is een van de bekendste West-Vlaamse bedevaartsoorden.
