Het ontstaan van Poesele zou als volgt geschied zijn. Toen de parochiemaker met zijn kar, geladen met parochieaarde, van Nevele naar Lotenhulle reed, viel er een grote kluit aarde van zijn wagen. De mensen die achter de kar liepen schopten de kluit open en zo ontstond Poesele.
