U bevindt zich aan de rand van het Spei-natuureducatiegebied. In 1988 plantten schoolkinderen uit Audenaerde hier een loofbos. In de jaren daarna nam de gemeentelijke milieudienst ook het beheer over van de aangrenzende percelen. Elementen zoals rijen gesnoeide bomen, wilde hagen, lage heggen, hoge fruitbomen en amfibieënpoelen vormen nu het landschap. Het gras wordt slechts twee keer per jaar gemaaid om de flora en fauna de kans te geven zich te ontwikkelen.
