Het Provinciaal Archeologisch Museum van Zuid-Oost-Vlaanderen in Velzeke toont op een didactische manier het leven in Zuid-Oost-Vlaanderen van de prehistorie tot de Merovingische periode. In de Gallo-Romeinse periode werd ruim gebruik gemaakt van Balegemse zandsteen voor onder andere waterputten, het opgaande muurwerk van woningen en de zuilen en kapiteel van de tempel. Een modern gebruik van Balegemse zandsteen zien we in de Romeinse tuin, in de vorm van plavuizen en zitbanken. Ook het uithangteken aan de ingang is een forse Balegemse zandsteen.
