Buiten de gotische vleugel uit de 16de eeuw werd het vroegere Hospice Saint-Gilles, vermeld sinds 1229, vanaf 1667 heropgebouwd in een U-vorm en met afwisselend gebruik van baksteen voor de muren en kalksteenvoor de raamlijsten en hoekverankeringen. Het gebouw werd in 1985 door het Waalse Gewest aangekocht en werd sinds 1996 gerestaureerd om er het parlement van het Waalse Gewest in te huisvesten, dat gesticht werd na de herziening van de Belgische grondwet in 1980. De 75 parlementsleden, verkozen via het rechtstreekse algemene kiesrecht sinds de hervorming van 1993, zetelen er ‘op zijn Engels’ in een rechthoekige zaal voor openbare zittingen.
