Van de abdij van Val-Saint-Lambert uit de 13de eeuw blijft enkel nog de oostelijke vleugel van de gotische kloostergang over. In 1751 wordt de abdij heropgebouwd, waarvan het abdijpaleis nu het huidige ‘kasteel’ vormt. Vanaf haar oprichting in 1826 perfectioneert de kristalfabriek de technieken voor het blazen, snijden en graveren van het kristal. Rond 1900 is ze uitgegroeid tot de grootste kristalfabriek ter wereld. Ondanks grote moeilijkheden in de jaren 1970 worden de industriële werkzaamheden ononderbroken voortgezet tot vandaag. Het gerestaureerde abdijcomplex kreeg een nieuwe bestemming als toeristisch activiteitencentrum, met een parcoursshow die de geschiedenis van het kristal en dekristalfabrieken vertelt.
