In het tochtportaal onder de toren herinnert een gedenksteen met daarop de data ‘9 et 10 julyt 1580’ aan de bestorming van de stad door Olivier van de Tympel en aan het feit dat de stad ontsnapte aan de beeldenstorm. Daaronder liggen 32 kanonsballen die aan de belegering door Filips van Cleef herinneren. Het glasraam in de westwand van de toren stelt Sint-Martinus voor, de patroonheilige van de kerk. De toren is 71m hoog en bevat een beiaard met 54 klokken die in totaal 13 ton wegen.
