Het was de allereerste begraafplaats die door de Britten in Ploegsteert werd aangelegd, niet ver van een verbandpost. De plaats genaamd Charing Cross was het startpunt van een loopgraaf genaamd The Strand die door het Ploegsteertbos liep. Tussen oktober 1914 en april 1917 werd de begraafplaats niet meer door de Britten gebruikt. In april 1918 viel ze in handen van de Duitsers, die er weinig gebruik van maakten.
