De grot in het Citadelpark werd en wordt door menig liefdeskoppel gebruikt. Dit werd zelfs vastgelegd in het boek Het Frontparadijs van Heinrich Wandt uit 1922 dat de oorlogsjaren in Gent beschrijft. Toen werd Pastoor Sturm, katholieke raadgever van de etappe-inspectie te Gent hier ook betrapt. Pastoor Sturm stond bekend als aanklager van het verval der zedelijkheidsgevoel. Dit weerhield hem echter niet om hier in de grot van het Citadelpark de liefde te bedrijven met een lokale prostitué op de heilige kerstnacht van het jaar 1915. Maar een Duitse landstormman die de benzinevoorraden diende te beschermen in de grot betrapte echter het koppel.
