Deze paardenkastanje werd tijdens de Middeleeuwen beschouwd als een magische boom. Zieke mensen die op zoek waren naar een remedie kwamen om een spijker in de schors te hameren. Ze wreven de spijker over het aangetaste deel van hun lichaam en hameren deze vervolgens in de boom in de hoop dat het gezonde hout hun pijn zou absorberen.
