De Vrije Universiteit Brussel is een vrijzinnige en Nederlandstalige universiteit in Brussel. De hoofdcampus van de VUB ligt op het voormalig oefenplein in de gemeente Elsene . Verder zijn er afdelingen in Jette, Anderlecht en Gooik. Verspreid over deze campussen telt de universiteit 8 faculteiten en 83 opleidingen, goed voor een totaal van 19.245 studenten. Daarnaast zijn er 4042 personeelsleden actief, waarvan 2749 met een academische functie. Sinds maart 2022 is professor Jan Danckaert rector ad interim van de VUB. In juni 2022 werd hij verkozen om die functie vanaf academiejaar 2022-2023 officieel uit te voeren.
