Het Kleine Seminarium, een van de oudste leerplaatsen in België, opende in 1806 zijn deuren op deze plek. Tijdens de oorlog werden de gebouwen gebruikt als een Duits veldhospitaal.
Het Kleine Seminarium krijgt een andere functie
Niet lang na de geplande start van het schooljaar werden de gebouwen overgenomen als tijdelijke accommodatie voor soldaten. Aanvankelijk was dit voor geallieerde soldaten, maar de schoolgebouwen werden al snel een Duits veldhospitaal.
De oorlog maakt onderwijs moeilijk
Het Kleine Seminarium was niet de enige plaats die door de Duitse bezetters werd gebruikt. Alle abdijen en kloosters in Roeselare werden requisitie genomen, evenals het ziekenhuis. Ook de talrijke andere scholen in de stad werden requisitie genomen.
