In 1990 ontstaat bij de rechttrekking van een bocht een 36 hectare groot eiland tussen twee Leiearmen in. Het wordt ingericht als landschapspark, met wandelwegen, een vlonderpad door een moeras, zithoeken, glooiende oppervlakken en trappen. De ideale plek om te wandelen, te joggen of gewoon een pintje te drinken op het terras van de cafetaria. Overnachten kan in één van de twee trekkershutten of op het kampeerautoterrein.
