Ruim achthonderd jaar geleden behoorde het huidige gebied Schotenhof en Koningshof tot de abdij van Villers. Het klooster aan de Villerslei was een 'filiaal' van de abdij van Villers-la-Ville (Waals-Brabant). Einde jaren 1700 (Franse revolutie) werd het klooster leeggeroofd en openbaar verkocht. De gronden werden verdeelden veranderden geregeld van eigenaar. Vanaf 1904 ontwikkelde zich zo rond het huidige Iepenburg de wijk Schotenhof. En in 1926 kocht de "NV Koningshof" voormalige abdijgronden om te verkavelen.
