Description

Voorheen Grote School, later oratorenschool en -klooster. In 1448 werden de aangrenzende gebouwen Wollemarkt-Schoolstraat door de stad opgekocht voor de inrichting van een openbare stadsschool, zogenaamd "Grote School". Gebouwen in 1630 overgelaten aan de congregatie van de oratoren (orde gesticht in 1624 te Scherpenheuvel), die het onderwijs in het Latijn en tevens vanaf 1645 de bediening van de Sint-Jansparochie op zich namen. Bouw van een brug over de Melaan, zogenaamde "Oratorenbrug", als verbinding tussen het klooster en de Sint-Janskerk.
