Het Kotje Piepersbos grenst aan het Hellegatbos en is eigendom van de gemeente Heuvelland. Dit bos dankt zijn naam aan de dorpsfiguur Cyriel Vanuxem, beter gekend als Kotje Piepers. Hij en zijn vrouw Maria Lenoir hadden het niet erg breed. Om een beetje geld in het laatje te brengen smokkelde Maria Lenoir boter over de 'Schreve'. Ze bevestigde de pakjes boter aan haar benen en trok met een wijde lange rok de grens over. Het duurde dan ook niet lang voor ze de naam Marietje Buterbille kreeg.
