Hier fiets je door het toneel van de wereldtentoonstellingen van 1935 en 1958. De Heizelpaleizen dateren van de eerste wereldtentoonstelling. Het Koning Boudewijnstadion heette toen nog Jubelstadion. Tussen 1930 en 1949 vinden er wielerwedstrijden en zelfs wereldkampioenschappen plaats op een afbreekbare, houten piste.
Het Atomium is hét icoon van de wereldtentoonstelling in 1958 en blijft een toeristische trekpleister. In 1958 start de Ronde van Frankrijk zelfs in Brussel, naar aanleiding van Expo 58. Naast een rijke geschiedenis kent deze ‘strategische zone’ van het Brussels Gewest een veelbelovende toekomst. Ontwikkelingsplannen liggen op tafel voor onder meer een nieuwe stadswijk, met woningen, winkels en misschien zelfs een vijver.
