De Sainte-Marie-Madeleinekerk is op zich een mirakel dat die nog recht staat. Tijdens de Franse Revolutie werd hier een groot deel van de kerk verwoest. In zijn boek Grand Central Belge beschrijft Pascal Verbeken dat je achteraan de kerk nog de relikten kan zien van uitgewiste gebeitelde Bijbelteksten. Je kan nog de diepe hamerinslagen zien met welke razernij de 'uitzinninge papenvreters' tekeer gegaan zijn.
