Het is pas sinds de XIXe eeuw dat Tourinnes, ooit de Teutonische of de Vlaamse genoemd, de bijnaam Grosse te danken heeft aan de imposante vierkante toren van haar kerk. Deze kerk, majestueus gelegen op haar heuvel, overziet het hele dal. Gebouwd van zandsteen, beschikt de kerk dus aan de westzijde over een indrukwekkende vluchttoor. Deze dateert uit de eerste helft van de XIIIe eeuw en is gebouwd van Gobertange-stenen. De dikte van de muren varieert van 1,6 m tot 1,8 m.
