Het kanaal en de kanaaloevers in de voorhaven van Brussel worden druk bezocht door meeuwen. De zilvermeeuw en kokmeeuw zijn de vaakst geziene gasten, maar er worden ook regelmatig stormmeeuwen en kleine mantelmeeuwen waargenomen. In kleinere aantallen komen er ook grote mantelmeeuw, Pontische meeuw, geelpootmeeuw en kleine burgemeester voor. Een goede verrekijker kan van pas komen om de verschillende soorten van elkaar te onderscheiden.
