Bij de uitgang van het Vergotedok komen koppetjes nijlganzen regelmatig uitblazen op de stevige pijlers die boten onder de brug door loodsen. Deze gans met zijn bont verenkleed (een mengeling van roodbruin, grijs, beige, wit, zwart en groen) komt van nature bijna overal in Afrika voor. Het is een exotische soort die zich deels met planten voedt en die in de 19e en 20e eeuw in West-Europa geïntroduceerd werd als siervogel voor parken, tuinen en dierentuinen.
