Hij kwam op tragische wijze op 64 jarige leeftijd om het leven door een val in de steengroeve 'Prosper' op 27 februari 1862.
Dit is een 'croix d'occis', waarvan er honderden zijn in Wallonië. Het herdenkt iemand die is gestorven op onnatuurlijke wijze.
