De Ourthe is in Somme-Leuze bijna aan zijn einde alvorens ze in Comblain au pont samenvloeit met de Amblève en in Luik in de Maas uitkomt.

Maar wist je dat Ourthe een departement van de Franse Eerste Republiek en het Franse Eerste Keizerrijk was? Zijn grondgebied stemde min of meer overeen met dat van de huidige Belgische provincie Luik en een kleine aangrenzende regio in Noordrijn-Westfalen in Duitsland. Het ontstond op 1 oktober 1795, toen de Oostenrijkse Nederlanden, het prins-bisdom Luik en de linkeroever van de Rijn officieel door de Franse Republiek werden geannexeerd.

Na de nederlaag van Napoleon in 1814 werd het grootste deel van het departement opgenomen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk der Nederlanden als de provincie Luik.
