De Vrede (vroeger Gildenhuis) was er al voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Ook de “De Groote Zaal” was er gevestigd, het lokaal van de Katholiek Partij van Denderleeuw. De zaal kreeg dan de naam Vrede St.-Amand. Dat moet rond 1933-'34 geweest zijn. De Zaal Vrede was zowat het cultureel centrum voor al wie gelovig was. In een zijgebouw was ook het kantoor van de Ziekenkas (CM) gevestigd.
In dit typische café kan je nog steeds de echte sfeer van een authentiek gildenhuis opsnuiven. Het lijkt alsof de tijd hier is blijven stilstaan. De inrichting en kleine details stralen de sfeer van weleer uit. Vanuit het hele land werden curiosa samengebracht en gerestaureerd. De vele uren werk hebben geloond, want het resultaat mag er wezen.
