De heidetoren is 6 meter hoog.
De architectuur is gebaseerd op de wachttorens van de krijgsgevangenen van 1945-1946 die hier in de tentenkampen zaten.
Daarna werd dit gebied opnieuw gebruikt als munitiedepot. In 2007-2008 werden de minitiegebouwtjes afgebroken. Wat nog overblijft zijn de merlons, verhoogde omwallingen die dienden om bij een ontploffing of brand te verhinderen dat de vlammen oversloegen naar andere gebouwen. Op de naar het zuiden gerichte hellingen van de merlons groeien heel wat zeldzame heideplanten. De rode dopheide is zeer zeldzaam in Vlaanderen.
