Het Institut Saint-Joseph Sacré Cœur de la Roche en Ardenne vindt zijn oorsprong in 1836, toen de Zusters van de Voorzienigheid van Champion een lagere en kleuterschool voor meisjes openden in de wijk Faubourg: het Institut Saint-Joseph.

Het gebouw staat hoog boven de stad. Het is van beneden te voet bereikbaar via de Rue Corumont en verder via een trap. Je komt aan en parkje met het beeld van een onderwijzende Jezus.
