Het kunstwerk verwijst naar de ruimte.
Het is een ode aan verandering, aan beweging, aan de oneindige ruimte volgens kunstenaar Frederic Geurts. Normaal is een kunstwerk iets waar je even bij stilstaat, maar daar is op een rotonde geen tijd voor. Automobilisten zullen in eerste instantie denken dat, met de rode en witte banen, het iets met de verkeersveiligheid te maken heeft, maar daarna beseffen dat er toch meer achter zit.
In 1998 en 1999 was Frank De Winne commandant van een smaldeel van de vliegbasis van Kleine Brogel. De rotonde is naar hem genoemd.
