De neogotische Sint-Gertrudiskerk is in 1870 op deze plaats gebouwd na de doortrekking van de provincieweg waardoor de oude dorpskern in een afgelegen hoek van de gemeente kwam te liggen. Op de muur naast de pastorij staat een muurschildering ter ere van keizerin Theophanu, omringd door de fauna en flora van de Bergenmeersen, de Hagia Sophia van de stad van haar jeugd Constantinopel (nu : Istanboel) en de Sint-Pantaleonkerk in Keulen waar ze begraven is.
