The neo-Gothic St. Gertrude's Church was built in 1870 at this location after the provincial road was extended, causing the old village core to be situated in a secluded corner of the municipality. On the wall next to the rectory, there is a mural in honor of Empress Theophanu, surrounded by the fauna and flora of the Bergenmeersen, the Hagia Sophia of the city of her youth Constantinople (now: Istanbul) and the St. Pantaleon Church in Cologne where she is buried.
