De basiliek van Koekelberg staat op de vijfde plaats van 's werelds grootste kerken, na de basiliek van Notre-Dame de la Paix in Yamoussoukro aan de Ivoorkust, St. Peter's in Rome, St. Paul's in Londen en Santa Maria dei Fiori in Florence. Vandaag is de kerk in de eerste plaats een plaats van gebed voor vrede. De kerk wordt nog steeds gebruikt voor vieringen van de parochie of voor grote nationale feesten. Maar de basiliek is meer dan dat. Het heeft ook een belangrijke culturele functie. Het is een prachtig Art Deco monument, er zijn twee musea, er zijn jaarlijks wisselende exposities en je kan er genieten van een prachtig uitzicht over Brussel!
