Karel Sabbe, de Anzegemse ultraloper, brak records op de Pacific Crest Trail, de Appalachian Trail en de Alta Via 2 en overwon de legendarische Barkley Marathon. Als wereldkampioen van 'Big's Backyard Ultra' vestigde hij een nieuw wereldrecord. Op 26 november 2023 werd Karel Sabbe geëerd als ereburger van Anzegem, een welverdiende titel voor zijn ongelofelijke prestaties. Als eerbetoon aan deze atletische held is een trailroute uitgewerkt langs de meest adembenemende plekken in Anzegem.
