Het museum heeft de meest uitgebreide collectie Cypriotische antiquiteiten ter wereld en is gelegen aan Museumstraat in het centrum van Nicosia. De geschiedenis ervan gaat hand in hand met de ontwikkeling van de moderne archeologie op Cyprus. Opvallend is dat alleen artefacten die op het eiland zijn ontdekt, worden tentoongesteld.
