Riesa is een gemeente en plaats in de Duitse deelstaat Saksen, gelegen aan de Elbe in de Landkreis Meißen. De stad telt 30.054 inwoners.
De stad Riesa is vooral bekend door de staalindustrie en als sportstad met vele sportieve evenementen. Verder is de stad Riesa zetel van een fabriek van typisch Duitse noedels, die naar de stad heet. Deze fabriek heeft een reus als logo.
In de 18e eeuw werd een verhaal verzonnen, dat vertelt, dat Riesa door een reus zou zijn gesticht. In werkelijkheid is de stad ontstaan bij een middeleeuws klooster nabij een Slavische nederzetting bij een riviermonding. Riesa dankt zijn naam aan de Sorbische aanduiding riezowe voor een dal bij een riviermonding.
Sinds 1994 heeft Riesa de status "Große Kreisstadt" in de deelstaat Sachsen.
