Selfkant is een gemeente in de Kreis Heinsberg in Noordrijn-Westfalen . Zij grenst, ter hoogte van Sittard, aan drie kanten aan Nederland. Selfkant is een uitgestrekte, hoofdzakelijk agrarische gemeente die uit een aantal dorpjes en kleine woonkernen bestaat. Uitgestrekte bossen bevinden zich alleen in het stroomgebied van de Roode Beek. De zichtbare bebouwing aldaar staat op Nederlands grondgebied. De gemeente telt 10.253 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 48,73 km².
