Ahlen is een stad en gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, gelegen in de Kreis Warendorf. De gemeente telt 52.635 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 123,13 km².
Ahlen ligt ten zuidoosten van Münster op de zuidoostelijke grens van het Münsterland met het Ruhrgebied, dat zuidwestelijk van buurstad Hamm begint, en het dal van de Lippe en de Soester Börde in zuidoostelijke richting.
