Altenbeken is een plaats en gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, gelegen in de Kreis Paderborn. De gemeente telt 9.105 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 76,23 km².
Altenbeken ligt op ca. 250 m boven de zeespiegel, vijftien km ten oosten van de stad Paderborn, in een vrij diep dal van een beek, die ook Beke heet. Ten westen, noorden en zuiden strekt zich het tot het Teutoburger Woud gerekende Eggegebirge uit. Naar het oosten gaat dit over in het Weserbergland.
Slechts ca. negen km in zuidoostelijke richting ligt het kuuroord Bad Driburg. Zeventien km noordwaarts ligt het stadsdeel Horn van Horn-Bad Meinberg, iets ten oosten van de befaamde rotsformatie Externsteine.
