Bad Salzungen is een plaats in de Duitse deelstaat Thüringen. Het is de Kreisstadt van de Wartburgkreis. De stad telt 20.244 inwoners. Naburige steden zijn onder andere Bad Liebenstein, Creuzburg en Geisa.
Naast de stad omvat de gemeente ook de dorpen Dorf Allendorf, Kloster, Wildprechtroda, Kaltenborn, Langenfeld en Hohleborn. Daarnaast is Bad Salzungen vervullende gemeente voor de gemeente Leimbach.
Bad Salzungen is de geboortestad van de Nederlandse componist Christian Friedrich Ruppe en van
Richard Mühlfeld , de klarinettist voor wie Brahms zijn klarinetkwintet schreef.
