Laer is een plaats en gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, gelegen in de Kreis Steinfurt. De gemeente Laer telt 6.700 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 35,03 km².
De gemeente Laer bestaat sinds de gemeentelijke herindeling van 1969 uit de plaatsen Laer en Holthausen. Holthausen vormt de uiterste zuidpunt van de gemeente en had rond het jaar 2000 ongeveer 600 inwoners.
