Schortens is een stad en zelfstandige gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Nedersaksen. Schortens maakt deel uit van het Landkreis Friesland. Het is na Varel de grootste stad in Friesland en ligt ruim 6 kilometer van Jever. Schortens telt 20.483 inwoners.
Schortens ligt in het historische Jeverland op het Oost-Friese schiereiland, aan de rand van de kleigrond. Talrijke dorpen, bijvoorbeeld de huidige dorpen Accum en Schoost, liggen op geestgronden. Daartussen lagen vroeger brede veen- en heidegebieden. Het stadsdeel Schoost ligt aan het Upjeversche Tief, een riviertje dat in de Maade stroomt. Aan deze rivier liggen de stadsdelen Roffhausen en Middelsfähr.
